As part of our Blue Abyss curriculum, Elm class learnt about Cornelius Drebbel, who was a Dutch inventor in the 1600s, who invented may things, one of which was the first submarine. They learnt lots about their uses, as well as how submarines use ballast tanks to hold water, allowing them to submerge when necessary.
Follow this lesson, the children then used plastic bottles, plasticine and straws to make their own working submarines! Although on occasion there was more water on the tables than in the bottles (where it should have been), the class certainly had lots of fun learning!
