Hazel Class had an exciting start to their new term of learning with the introduction to their next topic: Peasants, Princes and Pestilence! We have been travelling back to the Medieval times when plague was rife and the feudal system left peasants leading miserable lives.
To help kick start the term, we took part in a 'Tales of Plague' workshop, which immersed us in the 1300s and opened our eyes to the shocking (and rather revolting) truths of life during the Black Death. Marianne, along with the help of Alfie (our resident peasant) and his pet rat, told us stories about Medieval life and involved us in drama activities, so that we could imagine ourselves in the shoes of people at the time. We had a terrifying visit from the Plague Doctor, who told us about the horrific symptoms and bizarre cures associated with the plague. We also re-enacted the Peasants' Revolt, led by Wat Tyler.
It was a fun-packed day, which left us with lots of new knowledge. We are loving this gory, grotesque topic and look forward to what else it has to bring!
